Hi everyone,
Title is thanks to Sister Woodland.
(I asked Ashlin about that and she said she made fun of Sister Woodland and that was her reply, "If you're going to make fun of me, do it right." I'm assuming it has something to do with her being from a small town, but it was all in good fun.)
The branch has around 20 people at church every week. There are lots of strong youth. Some have been to the temple, and lots of members are getting ready to receive their patriarchal blessings next week. We have a senior couple (in fact, the only senior couple in our mission). They right now are working in Vlad during the week and in Artyom on weekends. He's the branch president, and one of the missionaries is the first counselor. Our church is in an office space next to a ventilation store and above a car wash. There's also a hooker bar in our building.
Sister Woodland and I quote movies ALL THE TIME. We're hilarious. We laugh all the time and totally get each other. We're pretty similar. She's a Utah girl, but she grew up on a farm. She really wants to help the missionaries have a good name here in Artyom. She likes big blingy stuff. Her hair is super curly. She's adorable. We love being companions and are worried that we're only going to have one transfer together because we get along so well.
Today we were street contacted by Jehovah's Witnesses.
Them: "Such young people should read the Bible!" (yes, that is how they started the conversation)
Us: "We do, every day!"
Them: (holding out a pamphlet) "Do you have this?"
Us: "No, but we have to go. Bye!"
Us: (to ourselves) "We totally know how they feel."
Sister Woodland went to Korea (and I got to see some missionaries from the West in the airport), so I spent Tuesday in Vlad. with Sisters Hall and Young. We had a good, fun day and a nice English practice. Vlad is definitely different from Artyom. It was kind of nice to come home to good ol' Artyom.
I also got to meet with a member that Sister Watts baptized when she served in Artyom with Sister Foulger. That member is still very active, had a calling in the primary, and loves those sisters so much. It's interesting to meet people that I've heard about from past companions or hear about past missionaries that I know from the members, kind of like meeting fairy tale characters.
I could talk about so much more. We looked at the family history site and learned how to do family history work better, we had dinner with our Relief Society President (we made borsch), and visited a less-active who has word of wisdom problems and went to China to buy an iPhone 6.
In other news, I bought winter boots today.
