Hi everyone,
In case you're wondering, the title should be read to the tune of "Tradition" from Fiddler on the Roof.
Flip gave us her signed permission slips for baptism yesterday! Whooooo! We've been worried about this ever since we found out she's not 18. Her baptismal date is for the 26th of September. Now, all that's left is to fill up the font (and a few more lessons, and one more time at church, and her before-baptism interview, but that's it). She already has most of the program planned out. We're sooooo excited. Then, to top it all off, today she calls us during school and says, "Hey, you know [insert name I don't recognize here]?" I'm like, "no..." until Sister Wilson says, "I met her yesterday on the tramvai!" Flip says, "She's in my class!" Somehow they got talking and figured out that they both know us, and they're both coming to a branch activity this week. Coincidence? I think not! This is great for Flip because she feels so alone at school, but now she has a new friend.
The branch had a talent show on Friday, and so many people came. There was singing, dancing, rapping, music, poetry, and beat-boxing at the pulpit for lack of another microphone. (Is that even proper English? So long as it's understandable, that's fine with me.) There were several investigators there, and it was so fun. It was easy to see how much fun the branch was having.
On Saturday we had a missionary meeting in the morning, and we all ate lunch at the church. As the elders were going to the store, they just waved to someone randomly, and that person decided to come inside and talk to them. The funniest part was when he saw the dyevchonki (little girls) and introduced himself using the diminutive form (or as I call it, the "cutsie" form). So there's his name, his nickname, and then the name his girlfriend would use. It's as if his name is Robert, his nickname is Bob, and he introduced himself as Bobby. Flirt to convert! The elders said once he was done flirting, he was actually pretty decent, and he did come to church the next day.
One of our members referred her neighbors to us, and they came to English practice and the talent show. The mom is an engineer, and the daughter dances. They came because the daughter isn't doing well in English and wanted help. I love our branch!!! We're seeing so many cool miracles. Who knows what other miracles will happen this week?
